Press Release
HOULTS YARD FOR SALE – FOR JUST £120!
A brand-new official Monopoly: Newcastle and Gateshead Edition has launched, featuring 30+ landmarks and organisations from across the region — including Hoults Yard.
And yes… we’re on the board.
We’re absolutely thrilled to have secured our place. Monopoly is all about celebrating the very best of a city, so to be included is a real honour. Hoults Yard has always been about bringing people and businesses together, and this recognition reinforces its place as one of Newcastle’s most exciting places to work.
Originally a historic industrial site, Hoults Yard has evolved into one of the city’s most vibrant destinations. Today, it’s home to a thriving community of independent businesses, creative industries and flexible workspaces.
But it’s more than just a place to work.
With on-site amenities, leisure experiences and a strong sense of community, Hoults Yard has become known as a place where people can genuinely work, create and play.
Its inclusion on the Newcastle and Gateshead Monopoly board reflects both its heritage and its modern-day role as a hub for innovation and collaboration.

The Big Reveal
At the official launch event, Tyne Bridge was unveiled as the top square on the board. To mark the occasion, Mr Monopoly rolled out a giant version of the game — bringing the new 2024 edition to life.
This isn’t the first time the region has had its own Monopoly board. A previous Newcastle and Gateshead edition launched in 1999 and proved hugely popular before being discontinued.
On that board, The Sage Gateshead held the top spot. This time, the spotlight shifts across the river.
“This is a new board for a new generation,” says John Keen-Tomlinson from Winning Moves UK, the game’s creators.
Spoiled for Choice
Earlier this year, the public was invited to suggest landmarks and organisations for the new board — and the response was overwhelming.
“We were wonderfully spoilt with choices,” says Keen-Tomlinson.
The final selection showcases the diversity of the region, from St James’ Park and the Utilita Arena to Grey’s Monument, Bigg Market and The Glasshouse. Local businesses, cultural venues and charities all feature, reflecting the character and vibrancy of Newcastle and Gateshead.
The board is grouped into themed sets — from heritage and shopping to leisure and the arts — offering a snapshot of everything the area has to offer.
Several charities are also included, such as The Alan Shearer Foundation, St Oswald’s Hospice and Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter.
A Game with a Local Twist
Beyond the locations themselves, the game includes custom Chance and Community Chest cards inspired by the region.
One even fines players for speeding along Cowgate’s busy Ponteland Road — a detail that locals will instantly recognise.
The game has been produced by Winning Moves UK under licence from Hasbro, bringing a local flavour to one of the world’s most recognisable board games.
The Monopoly: Newcastle & Gateshead Edition is available now in stores and online, including Waterstones, WHSmith, Booghe and Amazon.
