Hoults yard is on the board

TYNE BRIDGE FOR SALE – FOR JUST £400 !

A brand-new official MONOPOLY: Newcastle and Gateshead Edition game – featuring 30+ landmarks and organisations, including Hoults Yard!! – is now available to buy

The board – which sees bespoke property spaces and cards – hit the shops earlier this morning (12th November 2024), following a formal launch at The Utilita Arena.

We’re so excited Hoults Yard has its very own spot on the board!

At this morning’s ‘Big Reveal’ of the much-anticipated board, Tyne Bridge was revealed as having landed on the very top square. Mr. Monopoly rolled out a GIANT version of the board to mark the launch of this 2024 version of the world’s most popular board game.

In 1999, there was a Newcastle and Gateshead MONOPOLY Edition. It was hugely popular back in the day, although it was discontinued many years ago. In that version The Sage and Gateshead was on the top-ranking space (‘Mayfair’, from the classic London original game, price to buy: £400). “This time it’s Newcastle’s turn to take the top spot,” explains John Keen-Tomlinson from the board’s makers, Winning Moves UK. “This is a new board for a new generation.”

When it was announced earlier this year that Newcastle and Gateshead are getting a brand new 2024 version of MONOPOLY, the public was invited to send in suggestions for landmarks and organisations to feature.

“We were wonderfully spoilt with choices when putting this MONOPOLY board together,” adds Mr Keen-Tomlinson, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK.

The special edition features the great and good of Newcastle and Gateshead .. from the home of Newcastle United, St James’ Park to The Utilita Arena … The Glasshouse to wealth management firm True Potential  .. and Grey’s Monument to Bigg Market.

And it is themed in sets – from heritage to shopping … leisure to the arts – and more, all to reflect the history and vibrancy of the area.

Several charities feature too, including The Alan Shearer Foundation, St Oswald’s Hospice and the Newcastle Dogs & Cat Shelter.

Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive of Newcastle NE1 Ltd – which represents 1,400 businesses in Newcastle city centre – says:

“We are delighted that our fabulous city has been immortalised in such an iconic game as Monopoly. We can’t wait to see which landmarks were chosen to appear on the board and to roll the dice for our first game of Monopoly: Newcastle & Gateshead Edition.”

Luke McGrath, Head of Marketing at True Potential, says: “We are so proud to feature on this very special MONOPOLY board, cementing our role as an iconic Tyneside business. As experts in wealth management, savings and investments, in our eyes there is no better way to get families talking about financial literacy. For many people, MONOPOLY is their first encounter with the world of wealth management, and how many of us first learn about terms like ‘investment’.

“Our place on the MONOPOLY: Newcastle & Gateshead Edition game perfectly complements our ‘On the Money’ campaign, focusing on providing a solid financial education to young people while supporting local charities.”

In addition to the bespoke squares, the Chance and Community Chest cards are customised too. One card fines players for speeding on Cowgate’s busy Ponteland Road.

Winning Moves UK – an official MONOPOLY maker – has produced the brand-new MONOPOLY: Newcastle & Gateshead Edition board game under license from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company.

The MONOPOLY: Newcastle & Gateshead Edition is available to purchase at Waterstones and WHSmith – as well as extensively online, including at Booghe.co.uk and Amazon.co.uk.
